January Birthstone: Garnet

Garnet is a vibrant gemstone that is the birthstone of January. The stone receives its name from the fruit, pomegranate, and it represents the fire element. Despite its name, garnet actually comes in a variety colours such as red (almandine), purple (pyrope), orange (spessartine), green (andradite/uvarovite/tsarovite), pink (grossular), and black (melanite).
Representative to the Root Chakra, garnet represents love and friendship, and has purifying properties. It is thought to also have protective properties such as provide safe journeys and ward against injuries. The stone helps purging negative energies within the body and mind. Many wear garnet to redirect their inner tensions.
